Announcing... Loremen podcast, live at QED 2024
We’re delighted to announce the second podcast in our ever-popular podcast room, and an entirely new show to QED: the comedy folklore podcast, Loremen.
Join James Shakeshaft and Alasdair Beckett-King as they ‘investigate’ forgotten folklore in front of a live studio audience. Robin Hood? The Loch Ness Monster? Pfff! Too mainstream. Loremen is about folklore you probably haven't even heard of. Previous subjects include the Ghost Duck of Stoke, the London Monster, and Gef the Talking Mongoose. And who could forget, the Mickleton Hooter? Two absolute legends will tell stories from the British Isles, and then grade them according to the completely arbitrary Loremen Scoring System.
Alasdair Beckett-King is a legendary comedian, in that there is little historical evidence that he exists. But he does exist. The multi-award-winning stand-up comedian has performed on the BBC's Mock the Week, Comedy Central Live, Radio 4’s The News Quiz and at Glastonbury. Following several viral videos and a sell out run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Alasdair embarked upon his first UK tour in 2023. In the same year, Walker Books published ABK's Montgomery Bonbon series of children's mystery novels. People ask him for directions all the time; he looks like the kind of guy who knows shortcuts.
James Shakeshaft produces and co-hosts Loremen. Once a comedy actor and stand up you could spot him in a self-penned episode of Channel 4’s Comedy Lap and a thing called ‘The Looky Likey Show’. Nowadays he lurks in the shadows, waiting. Well either in the shadows or in a Greggs, waiting.
As with all events in the podcast room at QED, entry to the live recording of Loremen is included with your weekend ticket, costing £164 at our early bird rate - but hurry, because our early bird price expires on Monday 2nd September.
