Who are we?

North West Skeptical Events Ltd is a volunteer owned-and-operated non-profit organisation (registered in England and Wales, company no. 07302150), which exists for the sole purpose of organising and promoting the QED conference.

How do we collect information?

When you purchase a ticket for QED, we collect personal information from you. Visiting our website also necessarily involves the collection of certain information.

We are not given access to your payment details, as these are handled by our payment processor, Stripe. You can find their privacy policy at stripe.com/gb/privacy.

What type of information is collected?

When you purchase a ticket, we collect your name, the names of any other people you are purchasing tickets for, your email address, and (where applicable) dietary preferences. The legal basis for holding this data is the explicit consent given by the purchaser when they complete the purchase.

Any visitor to our website, whether they purchase a ticket or not, will have their IP address logged. This data is not retained and is automatically deleted after a maximum of 7 days.

How is your information used?

We use your information to process ticket orders and to keep you informed of the event. Some non-personal information is also used to help us understand how people use our website.

We also add your email address to our mailing list, to keep you informed about future events. You can unsubscribe from this list at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email.

Who has access to your information?

To the fullest extent possible, only authorised persons will have access to your information. We do not sell or rent your information to third parties. We do not release your information to third parties, other than:

  • for the purpose of preparing necessary event material (for example, printing personalised conference badges)
  • for the purposes of maintaining our mailing list
  • where we are required to do so by law, for example, by a court order or for the purposes of prevention of fraud or other crime.

How long do we keep your data?

Information about ticket purchases is retained for a maximum of three years. This is to allow us to provide you with information about future events, and to help us understand our audience. We review our retention periods for personal information on a regular basis.

Emails are maintained on the email list until they explicitly unsubscribe, or the email address becomes invalid.

Your choices

If you do not want to receive communications from us, you can unsubscribe using the link included with all mailings. We will not contact you for marketing purposes unless you have given your explicit prior consent, for example by purchasing a ticket.

Security precautions

While we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee the security of any information you transmit to us, and you do so at your own risk. Once we receive your information, we make our best effort to ensure its security on our systems.

Any breach of this policy or of data protection laws must be reported as soon as practically possible, as soon as you have become aware of a breach. We have a legal obligation to report any data breaches to the ICO within 72 hours.

Profiling

We do not use personally identifiable information to profile individuals. We may use aggregated data to understand the demographics of our audience, but this data is not linked to any individual.

Links to other websites

Our website contains links to other websites run by other organisations. This privacy policy applies only to our website, so we encourage you to read the privacy statements on the other websites you visit. We cannot be responsible for the privacy policies and practices of other sites even if you access them using links from our website.

In addition, if you linked to our website from a third party site, we cannot be responsible for the privacy policies and practices of the owners and operators of that third party site and recommend that you check the policy of that third party site.
